Robert Bowden

As a painter of urban subjects, my style is to capture the cityscape with both intimacy and immediacy. The paintings shown in this website are subjects engaging to me because of their color, shape, light effect, surface interest or compositional potential.

My home and roots are in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, College of Fine Arts, Department of Painting and Design. My career as a graphic designer upon graduation was interwoven with the pursuit of painting. Early on my main interest was abstraction, which evolved to realism as I developed an understanding of  how to successfully use watercolor.

Urban landscape painted in plein air is my major theme in watercolor painting.

Four books and three exhibition catalogs of my work have been published.  My paintings are in four museum permanent collections as well as numerous private and corporate collections.

Commissions are accepted. Notable ones include residential interiors and exteriors, murals, corporate collections
